Towards a Human Exposome Atlas
New webinar series to build collaborations to understand environmental factors underpinning disease and health

A new webinar series, ‘Towards a Human Exposome Atlas’ was launched on 9th December, co hosted by UNESCO, the Global Exposome Forum, and the Human Cell Atlas.
A wide range of diseases and health outcomes are linked to environmental exposures. The series will explore how these environmental exposures, such as air pollution, smoking, poor nutrition and poverty, microplastics and stress, shape human biology at the cellular level.
The first webinar introduced the scientific and policy foundations for a potential Human Exposome–Cell Atlas, connecting the global Human Cell Atlas community and the Global Exposome Forum. It discussed how single cell genomics can advance our understanding of how these environmental factors impact global science and health.
Dr Casimiro Vizzini, coordinator of UNESCO’s engagement with the Human Cell Atlas , said: “This initiative reflects UNESCO’s commitment to open science and science diplomacy, bringing together exposome research and single-cell mapping to build a globally representative and ethically grounded evidence base on environmental determinants of health.”
Anyone interested in contributing to the project should join the joint Human Cell Atlas: Global Exposome Forum Registry.
Recordings of the first webinar are available on the HCA YouTube Channel, and the next session will be announced soon.
